Abstract
Road traffic management in Malawi is still affected by problems such as the need for manual paperwork, the existence of fraudulent documents, the length of time it takes to process documents, and the absence of centralized data systems. The Driver's Digital Hub is a web-based platform that is presented in this report. Its purpose is to modernize essential services such as driver licensing, vehicle registration, incident reporting, and traffic fine management.
The system was built using React 18 with Vite on the frontend and Supabase with PostgreSQL database on the backend. Features include biometric verification, digital license generation, incident reporting via notifications, and blue book generation. Implementation of Role-Based Access Control supports three main user groups: citizens, driving schools, and road traffic administrators. The analysis, design, and testing of the platform have confirmed that it addresses the limitations of current manual procedures. This will speed up processing, improve data access, and increase the transparency of revenue and fine management.
Additionally, the platform aims to reduce administrative errors and improve coordination among road traffic stakeholders. Its centralized database enables efficient record retrieval, while secure authentication helps protect sensitive information. These improvements can contribute to better accountability, reliable service delivery, and increased public confidence in digital transport services across Malawi.
The report calls for future roll-out and scaling up, including integration with national ID systems and offline functionality to support users in rural areas with limited access to the internet. The system also promotes data accuracy, operational efficiency, security, and improved communication between citizens and road traffic authorities.
